Last year, I set out to find a checklist that could be used to help my students keep track of all the tasks involved in self-publishing a book. I figured there was no need to reinvent the wheel and there must be something out there I could share with my students. I looked high and low and could not find anything comprehensive enough, and certainly not anything for Catholic books (there are a few things you need to keep in mind!) So, I created one myself.

If you are hoping for a step-by-step guide, this is THE checklist you need.

Everything is available below for paid members. As I create guides and articles here in Substack, I’ll link to them in the checklist. This will become a super useful tool for piecing together all the articles I post.

I will say, I debated when to release this. There are a lot of steps listed in the checklist that I haven’t covered yet here on Substack. Please be aware of this and don’t feel overwhelmed if you get to a step and don’t know what it means. There are a few things paid subscribers can do if they feel stuck:

  1. Leave a comment letting me know the step you’d like more information on. This helps me prioritize which Substack posts I make next!

  2. Join a monthly discussion thread. When these go out, you can post 1 question/month. If it has to do with self-publishing, I’ll answer it.

  3. Join a Catholic Business Buddy Meetup video call where you can also ask a question. (More dates forthcoming!)

  4. Do some online reseach. Often times the hardest part is knowing what to research and when. This checklist will give you a good starting point for the terms you need to research.
